Online Poker Industry Thriving on Anniversary of Ultimate Poker Launch
The founders of Ultimate Poker celebrated the one year anniversary of their operations in Nevada on Wednesday. They are very proud of the milestones that they have achieved in that time and believe that their business will grow significantly in the months to come in Nevada and New Jersey. A.G. Burnett, Chairman of the Nevada State Gaming Control Board, recently echoed their sentiments in an interview with KRNV.
Burnett said that the state's three online poker providers generated over $900,000 in revenue in March. He pointed out that Ultimate Poker was the first site to be launched and is growing steadily. Burnett stated that the online poker industry generated about $10 million in the first 11 months of operation. Activity declined a few months after the introduction of online poker, but subsequently recovered in later months.
Burnett said that the NGCB is very impressed with the performance of the sites to date. He said that the revenue they generated has significantly boosted the state's economy. The regulator's data also shows that online poker has not adversely affected the land-based casino industry. Burnett said that casino revenues have actually increased since online poker was regulated.
Burnett said that the industry is facing a number of great opportunities in the months to come. Nevada and Delaware became the first two states to sign a multi-state compact to share player pools. Gaming providers in the two states are expected to start offering their services across state lines this summer. The new partnership is expected to help the states boost their revenue considerably, but the compact will be even more lucrative if New Jersey chooses to participate.
