DGE Reconsiders PokerStars Online Gambling Application

PokerStars and the Resorts Casino hope to partner together to offer online gambling in New Jersey in the near future. The two companies faced a setback in December, when the state's Division of Gaming Enforcement suspended PokerStars application for two years. The DGE said that the unresolved federal indictment of company founder Isai Scheinberg was the primary reason that the license application was suspended. However, the DGE recently announced that it is reconsidering PokerStars application.

The DGE will be holding a meeting with Amaya Gaming on Thursday. Amaya Gaming plans to purchase the PokerStars brand name, which could allow the company to reenter the United States gaming market.

David Rebuck, the chairman of the Division of Gaming Enforcement, said that his organization looks forward to the new discussions. Rebuck said that Amaya will provide details about the future vision for the company. Rebuck said that the DGE will look over all the information about Amaya provides to determine whether it would be prudent to issue a license to PokerStars.

Rebuck and other DGE officials haven't explicitly stated whether they are inclined to approve a license to PokerStars in the future. However, they wrote a letter that said the new developments were encouraging. This suggests that there is a strong possibility that PokerStars may be allowed to issue an online gambling license in the Garden State in the near future.

David Baazov, the founder and CEO of Amaya Gaming, stated in December that offering online gambling in New Jersey is a huge opportunity the company can't afford to miss. The company will have a strong competitive edge if it can bring PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker to the market.
